Reports have detailed that the Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens will play at Gillette Stadium next year. Journalist Chris Botta broke the news on Twitter this afternoon. The Bruins and Canadiens are rumored to face off in the New England Patriots stadium that holds upwards of 70,000 people.
Once tickets are available, check out the Boston Bruins from Coast to Coast tickets.
Gillette Stadium Is a Great Hosting Venue
In the NHL’s effort to have more outdoor games, it is definitely smart to have good teams play other good teams in prominent stadiums. The Bruins, of course, have proved themselves over the past few years. They are definitely one of the best teams in the NHL, and Gillette Stadium is a well-known entertainment venue. People may argue that it is too large of a stadium for a hockey game, but we saw Fenway Park hold the 2010 Winter Classic. The seats were completely filled. Keep in mind, also, that the B’s were playing the Philadelphia Flyers. Bruins fans hate the Canadiens. Canadiens fans hate the Bruins. Being a very heated rivalry, a 70,0000 person capacity should fill up pretty quickly.
For both Bruins and Canadiens’ supporters, Gillette’s location is accessible. Foxboro is only about a half an hour from Boston, so the drive down from Montreal to southern Massachusetts isn’t much longer than heading to the TD Garden.
I’m a big fan of outdoor hockey games. It feels like your watching professionals duke it out on a pond, and you can tell they love it too. The energy at these competitions is always awesome. If officially approved by the league, this game will be very entertaining.
